Look it is a tugboat and a pugboat, tee hee. Bur-dee here!  I can totally be a tour guide!

Are you ready for the summer time? We are! Things have been very busy at Kamp Ham and as a result we have a few changes  effective immediately.

Reservations:
  • Reservations are accepted on a first come, first serve basis. Need a last minute sit? We can do this on a space available basis, but it is best to make them in advance if at all possible.
  • Proof of up-to-date vaccinations and your nonrefundable deposit are both required before a reservation can be finalized!

Deposits:
  • For stays of under 5 days, one night's deposit is required at the time of reservation.
  • For stays of 5 days or longer, a 50% deposit is required. The balance is due on the pet's arrival.
  • Kamp Ham accepts Paypal, Visa, MC, Discover, Amex (through Paypal at this time) and cash. We accept local checks only, and there is a $35 fee for returned checks.

Cancellations:
Ok so you made your reservation. You paid your deposit. Your trip got cancelled or someone else offered you a better deal. When a reservation is made, no one else can book. If you cancel, we may not be able to fill your now empty bunk.

For this reason, the deposit you made upon booking your reservation is  nonrefundable. However....

  • If you cancel on a non-holiday, your entire deposit will be applied to your Kamp Ham account as a credit for future stays or services (Day Kamp, Spaw Days).
  • Major holidays and spring break deposits are nonrefundable and no kamp credit will be given with cancellation.

Hope that helps you when you have to book your trip to kamp! And I hope to see you soon!

XOXO,
Bur-dee

Don't reason with hurricane season...be prepared.

Bur-dee here. We have been very busy at Kamp Ham and I promise I will post more. I have been doing shows lately and will post my videos but I want to address hurricanes. And yes, I admit to paraphrasing Jimmy Buffett in my title but this is really a serious matter.

June 1 is officially the start of hurricane season in Texas and last week's floods indicate that we should all have emergency plans in place.

1. Have a disaster kit ready to pack and toss in the car. A kit or duffle bag or one of those waterproof containers is perfect. The Humane Society of Louisiana recommends the following:

  • pet food ( 2 week supply; don’t forget the manual can opener if you bring canned food!) water (2 week supply)
  • pet bowls leashes and/or harnesses medications (including heart worm preventative, flea preventative)
  • pet carriers, labeled with your contact information pet identification folders vaccination history (including rabies license and tags)
  • medical history and pet first aid kit with alcohol wipes, tweezers, bandage, cold pack, scissors, antibiotic ointment, bandage tape, iodine, gauze pads (assorted sizes) conforming bandage, latex gloves, wash cloth
  • emergency contact numbers (your veterinarian’s phone number, for example)
  • list of pet-friendly hotels, shelters, boarding facilities maps with evacuation routes
  • pet toys, pet beds, and/or blankets
  • treats, litter box, litter, and scoop dog-poop bags paper towels trash bags flashlight, batteries and radio

2. Have an emergency sticker on the window indicating how many of us are in residence. Should you evacuate, the ASPCA recommends that you write EVACUATED across it to keep rescuers from looking for pets.

3. Have a place to go. Most emergency shelters are not pet friendly. Some good sites for that master list include:
www.letsgopets.com
www.petswelcome.com
www.lclickpethotels.com
www.travelpets.com
www.peoplewithpets.com
www.petfriendlyhotelsandtravel.com
www.petsonthego.com
www.takeyourpet.com
www.dogfriendly.com

Hope this helps you put together a kit for your fur babies.
